The Project
The Burnaby Village Museum is an open-air museum in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, located at Deer Lake Park. The crown jewel of the facility is the restored 1912 C.W. Parker Carousel.
AHC was contracted to construct a new mass-timber outdoor pavilion at the entrance to the carousel facility, AHC also completed the associated civil works, concrete works and landscaping.
The Extraordinary Find
One noteworthy event occurred during construction; during the excavation phase AHC uncovered an abandoned 8′ diameter underground train tunnel. This train tunnel was used during the 1970s when the Museum operated a small railway for visitors. It was capped and abandoned during the 1980s and forgotten until its rediscovery during construction.
