Project Background

This project involves the construction of a First Nations Cultural Centre for five First Nations in British Columbia’s interior plateau. The centre aims to celebrate and exhibit their history and cultural traditions, fostering a stronger connection between local First Nations and the broader community.
The site, located on a challenging parcel near the Cariboo Highway, is constrained by a floodplain and utility right-of-way. The design addresses these constraints with a land-driven approach, integrating the building into a forested slope and creating a cultural landscape that enhances visibility and accessibility.
The centre features flexible spaces for exhibits, events, teaching, and community gatherings, providing a modest yet impactful facility that reflects the cultural and historical significance of the Northern Secwepemc people.
