Alfred Horie Construction Co. Ltd. was founded originally in 1893 as the partnership of Baynes
and Horie, by Mr. Edgar G Baynes (1870–1956) and William M. Horie (1858–1940). Their vision
of integrity and craftsmanship laid the foundation for one of British Columbia’s most trusted
construction companies.
Notable Projects:
– 1889 constructed an elaborate entrance arch into Stanley Park
– 1905 and 1906 – Davis Chamber Building on West Hastings. This was Vancouvers first
building to be erected with an elevator.
Mr. Alfred Horie transitions the business from his father, becoming the second generation of
Horie ownership.
January 23rd , 1936 – Baynes & Horie Ltd. is incorporated under the “Companies Act”
As a humble beginning, Eugene Paone joins the company as an apprentice.
February 12th, 1941 – Baynes & Horie Ltd. becomes Alfred Horie Construction Co. Ltd.
Notable Projects:
– 1946: Completed the first tilt up construction project in British Columbia
Mr. Alfred Horie steps down as company manager, passing the torch to Mr. Eugene Paone.
Mr. Eugene Paone becomes the sole owner and president, firmly establishing the company’s reputation for quality and dependability.
Eugene Paone’s sons, Stephen Paone, John Paone and James Paone take over the company,
carrying the family tradition forward. Stephen Paone becomes President.
Notable Projects:
– 2012: 1st Commercial application of Cross-Laminated Timbers (CLT), produced and installed in North America.
After 36 years as President, Mr. Stephen Paone retires and passes the torch to Mr. John Paone, who assumes the role of President. Mr. Dino Paone, Ms. Nancy Sehra and Mr. Peter Paone also join the ownership team.
At the end of 2023, Mr. John Paone transitions into retirement. Mr. Dino Sartori assumes the role of President, with Mr. Peter Paone becoming Vice President and Ms. Nancy Sehra serving as Controller.
