The Kluane Community Outdoor Skating Rink required the addition of a change room facility and fitness centre. AHC provided design assist input for the construction of CLT walls and roof — the exposed mass timber surfaces create a natural and inviting environment. During construction AHC was the general contractor.
Cross Laminated Timbers (CLTs) were the main construction component for this project. We were able to prefabricate 70% of the building and place all components in shipping containers which were delivered directly to the remote job site in the Yukon. A metal frame foundation system allowed us to install directly on the permafrost and eliminated the need for concrete.
